SHANGHAI—China’s Zeekr has hired a former Lexus executive to spearhead its operations in Europe. Reutersas the electric car maker plans to sell to the region later this year.
Spiros Fotinos, who has been with Toyota for 24 years and has led Lexus brand management globally, joined Sieg in September as CEO of Zeke Europe to lead the brand in the region. oversaw the operation.

The previously unreported move highlights Zeekr’s commitment to gaining a foothold in the premium EV segment in the home market of BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi.
The Geely-owned brand announced Wednesday plans to offer the SUV-style Zeekr X and its Zeekr 001 EV sedan in Western Europe. Zeekr has previously said it will launch in Europe in the fourth quarter of this year.
Zeekr CEO Andy An said he will detail the company’s overseas sales strategy at the Shanghai Auto Show scheduled for April 18-27.
It aims to sell 140,000 Zeekr vehicles this year, and will double that number by 2022, An added.
