Nutella ice cream is what happens when I’m standing in front of my pantry, longing for something sweet, and keeping an eye out for a Nutella jar my kids haven’t discovered yet.

Luckily for us ice cream junkies, we always have plenty of heavy cream and milk on hand just in case we need it. While chilling, I dreamed about how it would finish after stirring.

Inspired by the peanut butter ice cream topping and the Magic Shell that I’ve been making on repeat for years, I swirled the Nutella Magic Shell variation into this ice cream. Not technically required, but highly recommended.

And while we’re on the subject of “not essential, but very good,” I warmed up a final topping of peanut butter ice cream and swirled it with this second batch of Nutella ice cream. . Last week she gave a spoon and a container of ice cream to her friend and her reaction was invaluable.

I think it was something like, “What holy ice cream magic!?” Yes, it’s magic. And I’m sure you will too.

To make this recipe you will need the following ingredients:

  • nutella hazelnut chocolate spread
  • heavy cream
  • sugar
  • milk
  • vanilla extract
  • kosher salt

Description of ice cream

  1. In a large glass bowl, combine 3/4 cup Nutella and heavy cream. Microwave for 90 seconds, remove from microwave and stir until smooth. Heat for an additional 30 seconds as needed.
  2. Add sugar. Add milk, vanilla and salt. Mix again with a whisk. Chill and refrigerate at least 4 hours, until completely cooled.
  3. Process the mixture according to machine instructions.

Nutella Swirl Instructions

  1. While the ice cream is stirring, place 1/2 cup Nutella and coconut oil in a small glass bowl. Microwave for 1 minute, remove from microwave and stir until smooth. Cool to room temperature.
  2. When the ice cream is done stirring, transfer half the ice cream to an airtight container and drizzle half the Nutella sauce over. Repeat with the remaining ice cream and Nutella sauce.
  3. Cover and place in the freezer until firm enough to scoop. For an even better treat, serve with chocolate sauce, peanut butter topping, or hot fudge.
