Spoiler alert! This post contains details of the final episode of HBO Idol.

HBO’s controversial series Idol ended on Sunday, which certainly gave a big bang to the story the show was supposedly telling over its first four episodes.

In episode 5, titled “Joseline Forever,” Lily-Rose Depp’s pop star character tricks everyone into believing that Tedros (Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye) is manipulating him. Even then, it became clear that he was holding the reins the whole time.

“I think a lot of viewers will watch the first few episodes and think this guy is taking advantage of her,” Depp said during a segment about the finale’s production. “By the end, he realized she knew exactly what he was doing, and she knew exactly what she was doing, too.”

The episode opens with a lot of tension as Jocelyn has become hostile to Tedros. She has kicked him out of her entourage and is heartbroken thinking he can no longer control himself. Meanwhile, Jocelyn’s team wants answers. When tour promoters stopped by her house to discuss the tour, she put on a sizable performance, claiming that some artists Tedros had unearthed would open for her, and that she had been raising them all along. she claimed.

Jocelyn’s manager Chime appears to be paying Tedros to disappear on her orders, certainly raising eyebrows when Tedros reappears at Jocelyn’s concert at SoFi Stadium six weeks later. More confusing? An artist pass is always waiting for him. After the two reunited backstage, she welcomed him onstage as “the love of my life,” much to the disappointment of her management team. After all, she had a plan all along.

“Jocelyn is a very calculating and strategic person. She knows exactly what she wants and will go to great lengths to get it,” Depp explained. . “Tedros was her muse and she got what she needed from him.”

Creator Sam Levinson provided further insight: “Throughout the season, Jocelyn has been looking for inspiration. I will act as a pipe.”

Mr Levinson said Jocelyn “needs to devour the people around him to feel he has something to say”, adding that Mr Tedros had in fact “became a victim”.

The finale is one of the few episodes that takes the viewer outside of Jocelyn’s home. The end of the episode was filmed at SoFi Stadium during The Weeknd show After several hours trip. Levinson explained that while he was able to capture Depp’s onstage speech during the first act of the concert, he didn’t have much time to accomplish what was needed.

“We basically shoot for a live audience of 70,000 people. We need two takes to make that happen,” he said. “We had concerts on Friday night and Saturday night. Either we get it, or we don’t.”

To keep from getting nervous, Depp asked himself what Jocelyn would do.

“I was definitely nervous going out, but I just tried to put on my Jocelyn hat,” she said. “It was one of the craziest experiences I could have had in my life. Of all the things she went through during the season, she found what felt right for her.”
