Volkswagen has unveiled a new 210 kW (286 PS) MEB (Modular Electric Drive) powertrain. VW’s next-generation powertrain is expected to improve the performance and range of the ID.Family vehicles.
The APP550 MEB powertrain is expected to significantly boost power and torque for Volkswagen’s ID.Family line-up.Also, the range should be increased VW all-electric car.
Karsten Bennewitz, Head of Powertrain and Energy Systems Development at VW, said:
“[Constraints] This was a big challenge for the technical development team and the group component team. This result shows that we were able to significantly improve the efficiency of the vehicle while reducing the use of raw materials. “
The APP550 MEB powertrain delivers 210 kW (286 PS) of power and 550 Nm of peak torque, depending on the vehicle’s gear ratio. It also has an energy-saving cooling system that operates without an electric oil pump.
“The system allows for its own cooling through the gearwheels of the gearbox and specially formed components for the supply and distribution of oil. The heated oil brings the drive to operating temperature. The stator is equipped with a water heat sink on the outside, ”said the German automaker.
Volkswagen’s new powertrain will be produced at its component plant in Kassel, Germany. VW plans to roll out APP550 MEB powertrain to ID. Family by Q4 2023.
