(CNN) new york jets General Manager Joe Douglas Acquire four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers From the “historic” Green Bay Packers franchise.
Douglas said on Tuesday how the yet-to-be-firmed deal came together as both teams worked out the details.
“Obviously, it’s been a long time in the making,” Douglas told reporters at a previously scheduled pre-draft press conference.
“There are still a few things I’s have to intersect and T’s to intersect in order to finally complete everything… I can’t thank you enough [Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst] Enough of the open dialogue that we’ve had, we finally get what we feel is a historic deal for this franchise. ”
The long-awaited trade will reportedly send Rodgers to the Jets along with the Packers’ 15th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, according to ESPN and NFL Network reports.
The Packers are the Jets’ 13th overall pick in Thursday’s draft, one of the Jets’ second-round picks, and a first-round pick in 2024 if Rodgers plays at least 65% of the Jets’ offensive play this season. Receive nomination rights. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.
Rodgers will join the New York Jets after 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers.
