Week 14 College Football Bowl Projections

With less than a week before the Bowl bids were officially announced, it’s still unclear how many teams will qualify for the Bowl.

Interrupting weekly bowl predictions for breaking news. The Action Network is based in Central Tennessee and San Diego. headed to hawaii bowl … back to the bowl projection.

The Buffalo (5-6) face Akron in Friday’s game rescheduled due to weather, so it’s unclear how many teams will qualify. It’s easy for Buffalo — a win would make the Bulls his 80th bowl-eligible team.

If Buffalo wins, they’ll need two 5-win teams to fill the final two spots. Akron’s win means he needs three of his five-win teams to fill the 82 spot.

The standings of the five-win teams are based on their Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. Rice has the highest APR score of any five-win team, followed by him by UNLV and Auburn. Rice is guaranteed a bowl regardless of the Buffalo-Akron outcome. His APR for UNLV is his second highest, followed by Auburn.

If Buffalo loses, UNLV and Auburn will receive bowl bids next.

However, New Mexico Athletic Director Mario Mocha told Action Network that the school today appealed to the NCAA Football Oversight Board and waived its right to allow 5-6 NMSUs to play in the bowl. He said he asked for

If the NCAA rules in New Mexico’s favor, the Aggies will be picked ahead of Rice, UNLV and Auburn. As for UNLV and Auburn, we’ll have to wait to see if (a) Buffalo wins and (b) New Mexico’s appeal succeeds.

As for this week’s bowl predictions, Buffalo is predicted to be the 80th bowl-eligible team, leaving a spot behind two five-win teams. Until the NCAA rules out his Mexico state appeals, I’m putting Rice and his UNLV in my bowl predictions.
