How 1 Dollar Can Change A Life

I often talk about the many lessons I learned through my journey into the world of minimalism.

I learned the value of contentment, being happy with what you have instead of constantly asking for more.

I’ve come to see the beauty of simplicity not only in having less possessions, but also in simplifying our schedules and making more time to spend with the people we love.

I learned how to live a meaningful life—focus on what matters.

And over the years, I learned the power of man. for example:

heartwarming words You can brighten someone’s day.

random acts of kindness It can cause a chain reaction that affects many lives.

small step Moving forward can lead to big changes.

and i saw it too One community of great people You can spark a movement that changes the world. And unbelievably, a dollar a day can change a child’s life.

Introducing the “Hope Effect”.

hope effect

In 2015, with great support from this community, hope effecta non-profit organization that is changing the way the world cares for orphans.

It’s a big goal, an important goal.

Millions of children around the world are growing up without parents. In many developing countries, orphans are raised in institutions, commonly called orphanages.

Numerous children are cared for in institutional settings by rotating staff.

Unfortunately, decades of research have shown that institutional care has extremely detrimental long-term effects on children.

Children who grow up in orphanages do not receive the love, support and individual attention found in the home environment. As a result, children often develop delays in all areas of development. And sadly, when many children leave orphanages and grow old, they face a future of crime, prostitution and human trafficking.

There must be better ways to care for orphans and vulnerable children. There!

research is clear. Every child deserves to have a family.

That’s why The Hope Effect is committed to changing the way the world cares for orphans by providing loving family care worldwide.

Since announcing the formation of our nonprofit in 2015, the Becoming Minimalist community has been united in this great cause.

Today, we are pioneering and expanding family care worldwide with several locations in Latin America and Southeast Asia. In fact, just last month we announced the opening of our newest location in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Around the world, more and more children are leaving orphanages and moving into stable, supportive families.

Children like Lucas* have hope for a brighter future through the love of family.

lucas story

Lucas was taken away from his mother’s care shortly after he was born. After his initial hospitalization, Lucas was placed in an orphanage in Sonora, Mexico, where he spent the first few months of his life.

Orphanage staff provided the best possible care, but orphanages are no substitute for families. Lucas just survived when he should have learned, grown, and bonded with his family.

Thankfully, our team in Sonora was able to place Lucas into family care when he was eight months old. And in his loving family environment, he began to grow. Lucas quickly reached new milestones physically and mentally, overcoming several developmental delays in his first few weeks.

But don’t take my word for it. Watch this short video to see how much this little boy is loved and how his life changed forever.

Give hope for $1 a day

Incredibly, it only takes a dollar a day to change the life of a child like Lucas. For $1 a day, you can take a child from an orphanage to a loving family. $1 a day gives a child hope for the future.
