Mages, Blazing Sevens 2023 Preakness Stakes Predictions
One surprise is that Demling is leading the Blazing Sevens despite going 6-1. His only two Preakness horses in 2023 have his G1 S wins on their resumes: Mage and Blazing Sevens. The latter won the Champagne Stakes as a two-year-old, and never finished worse than fourth in the Blazing Sevens in his four career G1 race starts.
The horse was eligible and could have run in the Kentucky Derby, but trainer Chad Brown chose to avoid the race at Preakness in 2023. This is a strategy that Brown has used successfully in the past. He worked his way up in Early Voting (2022) and Cloud Computing (2017), ultimately taking preakness on both horses.
