Microsoft first launched the Xbox Expandable Storage Card almost three years ago with the Xbox Series S/X consoles. 1TB card is Priced at $219.99 Manufactured exclusively by Seagate. We’ve seen 512GB and 2TB options coming out of Seagate, but prices remain stubbornly high despite similar storage drops in PS5 consoles.
Additional makers of Xbox expandable storage are much-needed and hopefully help push prices in the right direction. Microsoft has decided to use its own storage for the Xbox Series X/S consoles. This makes installation more consumer friendly. But pricing suffers from just a single manufacturer. Sony instead opted for a fairly standard M.2 SSD expandable storage slot. This allows PS5 owners to use a wide variety of drives on the market. You can also use slower PCIe Gen4 drives with PS5.
It’s not clear when Western Digital’s new 1TB expansion card for Xbox will be available. We reached out to both Western Digital and Microsoft for comment, as there is no pre-order date on the Best Buy listing.
