He recently tested positive for monkeypox, and the JCPS said it was in contact with the Louisville Metro Public Health Department. In a letter to the family, JCPS said the employee had been in the school building at least once in the past two weeks and had recently tested positive for monkeypox.
JCPS said it is in contact with the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health. They did not specify the school to which the letter was sent.
They also sent letters home information about monkeypox, citing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which states that “monkeypox can be spread by close, personal, often skin-to-skin contact.” I have included
Types of contact include direct contact with a person with a rash or scab, contact with saliva, runny nose, mucus, and the area around the genitals.
“The risk of contracting Mpox from touching objects, fabrics, and surfaces used by people with Mpox and not disinfected, such as clothing and furniture, is considered low,” the letter said.
According to the CDC, symptoms of monkeypox include a blister-like rash, congestion, coughing, sore throat, muscle pain, fatigue, fever, and swollen lymph nodes.
JCPS said anyone experiencing symptoms should contact schools and health care providers and stay home.
“The health, safety and well-being of our school community remains our top priority,” the letter said. “We are closely monitoring this situation and will provide an update if further action is required.”
