NEW YORK — The Orioles have made quite a few vocal statements in the first two months of the 2023 season. Their performance over the past week may be the most highlighted yet.
With a 3-1 victory at Yankee Stadium Thursday night, Baltimore finished the American League East trip 5-1, winning all three games in Toronto and two of three in New York. Oars (33-17) lost Tuesday’s opener in the Bronx, but then bounced back to win the last two nights.
In his last game last Friday, Gibson pitched seven runs against Toronto to help Baltimore open with a win. The 35-year-old right-hander did even better against New York, pitching seven clean sheets with two hits and four walks.
Gibson has started four games against rivals in the American League East this season, going 3-1 with a 2.52 ERA.
The first score of the game was scored on an RBI single in the fifth inning by Anthony Santander, who had three knocks and four on base. The Orioles extended their lead in the eighth inning with Austin Hayes hitting a high two-run double into the right field wall.
Then, in the Baltimore bullpen, Mike Baumann struck out two in the eighth inning, 1-2-3, and Yenie Kano (hitting the ninth after Felix Bautista pitched the previous two nights) made the fourth save. He ended the match by picking it up.
