Mark Sheehan: Script guitarist and co-founder dies at 46
Tributes have poured in from across the music industry following the passing of The Script co-founder and guitarist Mark Sheehan.
The Irish musician died after a short illness aged 46.
“My much-loved husband, father, brother, bandmate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness,” the band said Friday. April 14) in a statement.
“The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy during this tragic time.”
Lead vocalist Danny O’Donoghue and Sheehan were best friends growing up in Dublin and formed a rock band in 2001 with the addition of drummer Glenn Power.
They released their eponymous debut album in August 2008, featuring the hit singles “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” and “Breakeven”.
Following six studio albums, the band will release a compilation album of Greatest Hits in 2021.

Label calls The Script “one of Ireland’s greatest bands”
In a tweet, The Script’s label, Sony Music, paid tribute to Sheehan.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Mark Sheehan, a very talented songwriter, guitarist and founding member of one of Ireland’s greatest bands, The Script. “At this time, our thoughts are with his family, fellow band members and fans.”

Why did Sheehan take a career break?
Lead vocalist Danny O’Donoghue announced last year that Sheehan was taking a break from The Script’s US tour to spend time with his family.
“It’s his story, but in other words, his children needed a father and his wife needed a husband,” the singer said.
“He’s been a driving force behind the script for a long time. [I told him] “If you’d like to take some time out for your family, you’re welcome. I urge you to go and do it.”
He described the group as supportive and described them as a “band of brothers” who “will be together no matter what”.

“Everyone who knew Mark Sheehan, and the millions of people who enjoyed and appreciated his music, will be devastated to hear of his untimely death.
“A mark of originality and excellence sought after by his bandmates at Mark and The Script, achieving such success worldwide, including six number one albums in the UK and a number three album in the US. We were able to do this, which is truly an amazing achievement.
“As part of my initiative in 2013 with Mark and The Script at Arras-en-Uahtaline, I host them as part of Graoch the President’s Call celebrating Irish creativity, its reach and impact. It has been a great honor and privilege to have had the opportunity to do so.
“Mark and The Script have played an outstanding role in continuing and promoting Ireland’s proud tradition of musical success around the world through their music.
“Mark will be missed by so many people, but of course it will be his family who will suffer the greatest loss. , and my deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
The president concluded with the Irish phrase “suaimhneas síoraí dá anam”, which means “eternal peace to his soul”.
