As for my wife, I have no shame in affirming the wisdom of Solomon, who wrote:
“Whoever finds a wife finds good things and finds favor with the Lord.”Proverbs 18:22).
“A good wife is her husband’s crown” (Proverbs 12:4).
“A wonderful wife, who can find her?” Her husband’s heart trusts her, and she has no shortage of gains. All her life she does him good, not evil. “Proverbs 31:10).
Unfortunately not everyone does marriage I respect or value my wife very much. It is no exaggeration to say that our society has serious marriage problems. Places once considered sacred are now treated with contempt.
Marriages around the world are collapsing at record rates, and even the healthiest marriages are often broken, loveless or weak. Divorce is seen as a quick and easy way out of a normal marriage when things get too hard, or when the fire or passion of young love flickers. To be clear, I am not ashamed or blaming anyone who is forced to run away or leave an abusive or adulterous relationship.
But if anyone knows what it feels like to be deceived and betrayed by an unfaithful bride, it’s God.
But the Bible conveys God’s contempt for divorce (Malachi 2:14-15) It also reveals God’s love for those who have been betrayed, hurt and abused by unloving or unfaithful spouses.
God blessed mankind with marriage. And it is God’s purpose to see marriage flourish through love. faith, and in unity. God hates divorce because it hurts to see our children hurt and the covenants we made for their benefit dissolved.
That said, marriage rates have been trending downward in recent decades as divorce rates have risen. These days, young people are waiting longer and longer to get married and start a family, if at all. Part of it is for economic reasons. It can also be born out of fear. In addition, many young people would rather focus on their careers or abandon the marriage contract altogether and live together or have sexual relationships.
Being single is not a problem. But the tragedy is that fewer and fewer people consider marriage a treasure worth even pursuing.
Needless to say, Satan has wreaked havoc on the institution of marriage, both from the outside and from the inside. And as marriages continue to fall apart, so does the health of families, churches and societies.
But what society sees as frivolous and insignificant, God treats as sacred, glorious, and worth fighting for. why? because God created it.
