One of the most rewarding ways to spend quiet time together is prayer. Perhaps keep a prayer journal where you write down everything you need to pray for. You can record how God came for your family and see His faithfulness manifest over and over again. This will strengthen your faith and build trust in your spouse.

When you pray, be sure to pray for each other and thank God. When my husband and I were in premarital counseling, our pastor encouraged us to pray and thank God for each other every night before we went to bed. Of course, it’s not always consistent or perfect, but thanks to this prayer time, we’ve seen God work miracles in our lives.

Hearing our spouse thank God for us and what we are doing for our family builds trust and confidence in our marriage and in our spouse. It brings you closer together because you can connect your spouse’s direct connection with God. This is exactly what it means to be one, as the Word says.

Therefore, a man leaves his father and mother and embraces his wife, and the two become one. Genesis 2:24

Again, don’t be overwhelmed by the thought that you need to add one more to an already full plate. God knows exactly where you and your spouse are and what you can do. This does not mean that God will not push you or ask you to do new things, but that He has specific plans for your marriage and how He will guide you through your marriage. You can be sure that you want it.

Start by lifting the idea of quiet time to the Lord and watch the Lord work mightily in your marriage.
