John Mellencamp admits he was ‘s–tty boyfriend’ to Meg Ryan

John Mellencamp has admitted for the first time that he didn’t treat ex-fiancé Meg Ryan with the respect he deserved.

‘She’s a great girl. I’m such a good boyfriend’, ‘Hurts So Good’ singer told esquire while attending the magazine’s “What I Learned” interview series on Tuesday.

Still, Mellencamp added: “I love Meg Ryan. I’ve been dating her for 10 years. She doesn’t love me that much.”

The rock star, 71, and the “When Harry and Sally Met” actress, 61, began dating in 2011 after model Elaine Irwin and actor Dennis Quaid divorced, respectively.

“We were really at a loss,” Mellencamp recalled of the beginning of their romance.

“We didn’t know how to do anything. I’ve never checked out of a hotel by myself. She and I went to the grocery store and they wanted our credit card.” and we looked at each other and said, “This is it,” and they said, “No, you have to put it in this.” What will happen?” he said. We laughed so hard at our stupidity that we cried a lot. ”

The pair split in 2014 due to their long distance (Mellencamp lived in Indiana, while Ryan was based in New York).

The “Jack & Diane” crooner infamously said on “The Howard Stern Show” in 2017 that the “Sleepless in Seattle” star hated him “to death.” The two reunited later that year.

The stars announced their engagement in 2018, but broke up again the following year.

Mellencamp feels Ryan has come a long way since they last parted ways.

“I think she learned how to do everything, but I learned how to do nothing,” he confessed candidly to Esquire.

The Grammy Award winner has been married three times and has five children, including former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Teddy Mellencamp.

Ryan has two children, including actor Jack Quaid.
