Boston mayor welcomes Earthshot
Prince William and his wife Kate have arrived in Boston for their first overseas trip since the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the accession of Charles III to the throne.
The current titles of Prince and Princess of Wales last visited America in 2014 when they attended events in New York and Washington, DC.
Arriving in Boston on Wednesday, the couple will attend the Prince’s Earthshot Environmental Award ceremony and visit the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and local environmental and social advocacy projects.
The media spotlight on the trip has grown even stronger as Buckingham Palace became embroiled in a racism scandal that led to the resignation of Prince of Wales godmother Lady Susan Hussey. A spokesperson for the prince gave her a sharp rebuke regarding her comments to black advocates for domestic violence survivors.
The couple sat courtside with Massachusetts governor-elect Maura Healy to watch the Boston Celtics take on the Miami Heat Wednesday night.
The royal couple are scheduled to be greeted by President Joe Biden, who will be visiting Boston on Friday, but are not expected to meet with Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle in New York in the next few days.
