A24’s new horror movie turns possession into drugs
It’s already been a pretty good year for horror movies, but so far none have been as good (or disturbing) talk to meThe film’s first trailer was released on Tuesday, ahead of its July 28th release date, and showed off just a few of the horrors this owned film has up its sleeve.
The film follows a group of teens who have a mysterious hand statue (presumably a real mummified statue) that allows them to connect with the spirits of the dead. As such, the group immediately begins using it like a party drug, having spirits possess them for short periods of time to snatch hard-to-find highs. Of course, one of them makes the Spirit stay a little longer and everything goes south quickly.
It’s an excellent premise, giving the movie plenty of room for scare and fun, as well as some incredibly brutal twists. All of this makes Polygon one of his favorite movies of the year so far.
talk to me It premiered at Sundance 2023 to rave reviews and was soon purchased by A24 for release. The film was directed by first-time feature filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippow and directed by Sophie Wilde (You Don’t Know Me), Alexandra Jensen (Joe vs Carol), Miranda Otto (Lord of the rings: return of the king).
