Molasses Oat Bread can be eaten right out of the oven, smeared with butter for breakfast or anytime with coffee. Whole grains and walnuts give this oat bread a nutty flavor. This is the perfect fall bread to serve as a snack to friends and family at meals and gatherings.

Molasses Oat Bread Ingredients Needed:

whole wheat flour

all purpose flour

salt

baking powder

barley

molasses

buttermilk

egg

oil

vanilla

walnut pieces

This bread is one you’ll want to make over and over again, and it’s really good! It’s one of our favorite his and has great flavor. If you love making homemade bread, you’ll love this one too. old sweet bread, it was probably made by your grandmother. This is another very popular recipe!

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tea spoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 1/4 cup barley
  • 1/2 cup molasses I used sorghum molasses.you can use whatever you have
  • 1 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoon oil using canola
  • 1 tea spoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup walnut pieces
  • Whisk whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, oats, salt, and baking powder in a large bowl.

  • Whisk buttermilk, eggs, oil and molasses in a small bowl. Combine the two bowls and mix well with a spoon.

  • Spray a 9 x 4 bread pan and add dough. Sprinkle the walnuts over the dough.

  • Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 45-50 minutes.

  • Chill for 8-10 minutes. Remove from pan. Make 1 loaf.
