  • A Tesla owner said his car wouldn’t charge in the cold and he was stranded on Christmas Eve.
  • Domenick Nati, 44, said it was 19 degrees when he hooked up his Tesla to the supercharger.
  • After 15 hours, the battery still showed a range of 19 miles, forcing him to cancel his Christmas plans.

Domenic Nati’s vacation didn’t get off to a happy start after Tesla refused to charge in sub-zero temperatures.

44 year old radio hostThe Lynchburg, eastern Virginia, native told Insider the temperature was 19 degrees Celsius (-7 degrees Celsius) when he plugged his Tesla S into the supercharger on Friday because the battery was down to 40%.

“It’s been two hours and not much has changed,” he said. “It was very slow and the numbers got lower as the temperature dropped. Eventually it stopped charging completely,” Nati added.

He then tried to charge the vehicle at home, without success there either.

On Christmas Eve afternoon, he decided to drive to another Tesla Supercharger. “Battery is hot – keep charging cable inserted,” Nati said as it appeared on the screen at 1:11 p.m.

He posted a video on TikTok about the issue he said he got stuck on Christmas Eve.

“I don’t have another car so I decided to see if I needed more time. Time passed and I only had 19 miles left to empty, so I left the car plugged in. and decided to go home,’ he said.

Nati told Insider that he contacted Tesla’s customer support, but received no response.

Nati left her car charged for the next 15 hours, but still had no change, so she decided to cancel her Christmas plans because she couldn’t book an Uber or Lyft.

He also predicted that trouble with Tesla would prevent him from seeing him open presents with his son on Christmas morning.

Tesla did not immediately respond to an insider’s request for comment.
