Happy New Year my friend! Remember the song “This is a song that never ends”? It just goes on, my friend. I replaced the word ‘flu’ with ‘song’ and played it on repeat in my head all afternoon. Someone in my family has been sick with some kind of illness since Thanksgiving and we’re all really freaking out about it.

Just when I thought the problem was finally resolved, one of the boys had a fever yesterday. Super super fun time. But a year ago, Sean was in the hospital, and the future was full of unknowns. Wishing all of us a happy and healthy start to the new year!

“God is our refuge, our strength, our help in the very place of trouble. Though its waters roar and foam, and the mountains tremble with their heaps, do not be afraid.” Psalm 46:1-3 ESV

on the blog This week: Roasted sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts are great from start to finish. Add some salty bacon and a splash of vinegar, and this makes a great side dish.

this simple Roasted Spinach Artichoke Dip Creamy, rich and full of great flavor. My family reminds me fairly regularly that nothing is not enhanced by the inclusion of bacon in the sun.

Ham and cheddar cheese sandwiched between fluffy biscuits. Eaten as is, with scrambled eggs for breakfast, or with soup for dinner, these biscuits disappear as quickly as I make them.

Dusted with rosemary and thyme, this creamy, rich slow-cooker potato soup simmers in the cooking pot all day until it’s ready to eat. I’ve called this my “busy day potato soup” for years.

Spiced Pear Oatmeal is loaded with rolled oats, cooked pears, cinnamon, brown sugar and butter. It’s a weekday breakfast that can be made in just a few minutes. When you have a few more minutes to spare, these banana coconut pancake Topped with butter and syrup, it’s a sweet and savory way to change up your weekend pancake routine.

What I crave: I love a great brussels sprout salad (<– I happily eat it every week!) and this Asian Kakiage Salad with Brussels Sprouts Sounds like a good Time and Joy song.

My Favorites This week This MOBI gameThis game is similar to Bananagrams, but instead of words you create connected math equations. It might sound a little complicated, but I promise you it’s not.

You can keep it as simple as you like with addition and subtraction, or mix multiplication and division. The game is designed for ages 6 and up. But while I played with his 19 year old and was happy to use the basic tiles, he made it more challenging by using more complex tiles to make it more difficult.

What I see: PeripheralI love my new SF Twist and this was a great watch. As my husband was quick to point out, the show is very loosely based on the Gibson book of the same name, but the book stands well on its own. No, but my husband enjoyed reading the book, and he really enjoyed it.

what i am reading: spilled milk By KL Landis. I don’t usually recommend abuse stories, but this book is unlike many others I’ve read.

There was nothing sugar-coated in this book, everything about the author’s childhood was ugly and terrifying. Her story of what happened should be a must-read for anyone who works with victims of this type of crime.

“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give you. As the world gives, I will not give you. Let not your hearts be troubled, nor be afraid.” John 14 :27 ESVs

I wish you a beautiful week full of little things that make you smile!
